The Urban Development Corporation is seeking a Joint Venture partner to develop and operate Beach  Recreational Facilities on Booby Cay, Negril , Hanover .

Booby Cay is situated just offshore of Long Bay , Negril. The Cay is approximately 2.5 hectares in size and is predominantly a white limestone and dolomitic limestone formation. To the southern edge of the Cay there is a beach of approximately 4000 sq. meters, which, over the years, has been used as an informal recreational beach.

The Corporation intends to develop along the southern edge of the Cay a recreational facility comprising of a small beach warden’s shelter, public toilets, a lifeguard station, picnic stands and the “Cast Away Restaurant” facility.  The overall development area comprises of no more than 30% of the Cay.  The actual built area will be only 2%. The remaining area of the Cay will be retained in its natural underdeveloped state.

In order to protect the Cay’s environmental bio-diversity the Corporation intends to limit the number of visitors wishing to use the beach on the Cay to no more than 200 persons on any one day.

The “Cast Away Restaurant” is approximately 400sq m. It is intended to provide support-catering facilities to the beach patrons while in itself it will be a unique restaurant and bar location offering the ultimate get-a-way for patrons who just want to visit the Cay to dine.

The concept for the development is intended to be a “minimalist” intrusion unto the Cay with the structures all constructed to give the appearance of gently touching the land.  It is the Corporation’s intention to develop and have the facility operate along strict environmental guidelines that will ensure protection of the environmental bio-diversity of the Cay.

The estimated cost of the overall development is approximately J$ 14 million of which the 60 seat “Cast Away Restaurant” and support infrastructure facilities is budgeted at J$ 9 million.  Interested parties wishing to participate in this unique Joint Venture opportunity must not only be able to show profit of how they intend to finance the development but must also indicate their experience and ability to manage facilities of a similar nature to the proposal, as well as provide a Brief Concept Operational Plan on how they intend to run the facility.

The successful Joint Venture candidate will be expected to work alongside the Corporation in not only the development of the facilities but also in the preparation of an Operational Plan to show how they intend to manage the facilities.
