Ocho Rios Bay Beach Hosts 1st Continental Women’s Beach Volleyball Tournament and Women’s Olympic Qualifiers

The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) provided sponsorship valued at $750,000 for the first Continental Women's Beach Volleyball Tournament and Women's Olympic Qualifiers, by contributing the use of the Ocho Rios Bay Beach in St Ann for the three day period, May 1 to 3.

Hosts Jamaica claimed a sensational victory in the finals held on Sunday, May 3 to emerge as winners of the tournament.  The tournament was organized by the Jamaica Vollyball Association.

Fourteen Caribbean countries namely, Aruba, Bonaire, Bahamas, Barbados, the Cayman Islands, Curacao, Guadeloupe, Haiti, Jamaica, Martinique, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos and the US Virgin Islands participated in the competition.

Nestled between Sunset Jamaica Grande on the eastern side and Ocho Rios Cruise Ship pier on the western end, Ocho Rios Bay Beach, also referred to as “Turtle Beach” is one of the beautiful attractions operated by the Urban Development Corporation.

With Its brilliant white sand, crystal clear water and captivating view of the Caribbean Sea, it is the ideal venue for any event.  The attraction is complemented by other amenities such as concessionary motorized water sports activities, snack shop and picnic facilities.
