UDC Launches Blue Flag Programme

The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) officially launched the UDC “2010/2011 Blue Flag Programme” on Friday, December 10, at Ocho Rios Bay Beach in St. Ann.  Three UDC beaches are now Blue Flag certified. These include Ocho Rios Bay in St. Ann, the first beach in the parish to receive this certification and Long Bay Beach Park 1 and Bluefields Beach, both located in Westmoreland.

Privatization of National Hotels and Properties Limited 59.81% Shareholdering in Pegasus Hotels of Jamaica Limited Completed

National Hotels and Properties Limited (NHP), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Urban Development Corporation (UDC), has today completed the sale of its 71,865,384 ordinary stocks units or 59.81% of the issued shares in Pegasus Hotels of Jamaica Limited (PHJL) to hotelier Mr. Kevin Hendrickson for the amount of US$11 million. The share sale and purchase transaction, which is the culmination of a public bidding process in which Mr. Hendrickson was the successful bidder, has been approved by Cabinet.

UDC Launches Tax Incentive Programme in Spanish Town

The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) launched the Tax Incentive Programme for Urban Renewal (TIP) in Spanish Town at Emancipation Square on Wednesday, October 27.  Introduced to Spanish Town during 2008, the programme was formally launched to increase awareness and to stimulate use in the development of Spanish Town and it’s environs.

Jamaica Conference Centre Wins World Travel Awards

The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) managed Jamaica Conference Centre (JCC) is the Caribbean’s leading Meetings and Conference Centre for 2010.

This award was presented at the 17th staging of the World Travel Awards held at Sandals Whitehouse, Westmoreland on October 22, 2010, the culmination of votes from 180,000 travel professionals worldwide.

UDC Leads Combined Group in Falmouth Development Works

The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) is currently leading a team of core government agencies to transform the town of Falmouth and its environs as it develops into a cruise ship destination.

The agencies involved in this partnership include the Port Authority of Jamaica, National Works Agency, Tourism Product Development Company, Social Development Commission, Jamaica National Heritage Trust, the Trelawny Parish Council, and the HEART Trust NTA.

Greater Portmore Primary and Camperdown High Win “2010 Hellshire Schools Enviro Competition”

Greater Portmore Primary and Camperdown High Schools copped the top prizes valued at $25,000 each and the winning trophies, in their respective categories, for participating in the Urban Development Corporation’s (UDC) “2010 Hellshire Schools Enviro Competition”. The awards were presented at the 4th Annual Hellshire Enviro Fair, held at Two Sisters Caves on October 7, 2010.

UDC Opens Office in Falmouth

The Urban Development Corporation has opened an office in Falmouth, Trelawny to support its developmental mandate in that town and its environs.

The office which is located at 4 Rodney Street is headed by Senior Portfolio Manager, Howard Barrett and supported by Community Integration Manager, Yvonne Brown and a team of urban planners and support staff. The office will also ultimately serve as an information hub for residents and visitors alike.

Falmouth Supports UDC’s Community Expo

A wide cross section of Jamaicans turned out to support a Community Expo which was held by the Urban Development Corporation (UDC) in collaboration with the Trelawny Parish Council and other partner agencies at Water Square in Falmouth on Saturday, July 24.
