UDC Hosts 33rd Annual Hellshire Summer Fun

As the Urban Development Corporation (UDC) continues to celebrate its 45th anniversary, the government’s principal urban and rural development agency hosted the 33rd Annual Hellshire Summer Fun on July 25, 2013. On this occasion, approximately 400 children from childcare and protective institutions in the corporate area were treated by the UDC to a fun filled day at the Fort Clarence Beach in Hellshire, St. Catherine.

General Manager, Desmond Malcolm indicated that the UDC remains committed to this important event.  “This financial year 2013/14 represents for us a very special year as it is our 45th year of making development happen in Jamaica. Our history has been one marked by achievements and challenges.  However, we have remained steadfast that it is the people who are at the heart of our planning process and for whom we continue to make development happen. It is therefore natural for us to focus on our youth some of whom are physically or mentally challenged, by treating, entertaining and educating them at this annual event”.

Speaking at the event Sharmaine Ricketts, Marketing Officer, O.B.F Finance said “We are big on corporate social responsibility and giving back to the community is a passion of ours. O.B.F saw it fit to partner with the UDC to participate in this event which brings relaxation to the children. It brings us happiness just to see them out of their normal environment here enjoying a day at the beach.

Also speaking at the event, Mavis Burton, House Mother, Jamaica National Children’s Home said “The children look forward to this event and have always anticipated it over the past 33 years. We would like to thank the UDC and wish them all the best and we hope they will continue  to host this event for many years to come”.
