Several children from 14 basic schools had a visit from Santa on Thursday, December 10 at the Urban Development Corporation’s (UDC) annual Christmas treat held at the Boston Community Centre in Portland. The treat was one of five treats organised by the UDC as part of its community development programme.

| UDC HONOURS EXCELLENT STUDENTS IN PORTLAND |

Joan Smalling, corporate relations manager(l), Urban Development Corporation (UDC) congratulates Tamar Witter from Fair Prospect High and Danique Kelly, from Reach Primary and Infant for emerging first place winners in the secondary and primary category respectively of the UDC’s 5th Annual Students of Excellence Competition. Sharing in the moment is Veron Hussey, community development officer, UDC. Both students were awarded for maintaining exemplary academic standard and conduct over the past 3 years as well as their participation in extra curricular activities. The students were among 43 students from 8 primary and 2 secondary schools who were honoured for outstanding achievements by the UDC at a function held at Happy Grove High School in Portland on Thursday, November 26.

| WESTWOOD HIGH CHAMPIONS |
|

in dialogue with Annika Swaby and Oneila Brooks, students of
Westwood High School in Trelawny. Westwood High and Shar-mar
Preparatory Schools copped the top prizes valued at $30,000 each as
well as passes for their environmental club to Dunn’s River and
Green Grotto Caves in the Green Grotto Schools Enviro Competition.
The presentation of awards was made at the
Green Grotto Schools Enviro Awards ceremony
held at the Green Grotto Caves and Attractions on November 5, 2009.
Ten high and primary schools participated in this year’s competition
and the winning projects focused on energy and water conservation
and recycling.

| UDC PROMOTES HEALTHY LIFESTYLE IN PORTLAND |

Anthony Morrison, marketing manager, Portland Co-operative Credit
Union presents a cheque to Calford Fraser, a student at the Boston
Primary and Infant School, while Veron Hussey, community development
officer, Urban Development Corporation (UDC) looks on. The school
emerged first place winner in a banner competition organized by the
UDC. The competition formed part of a Healthy
Lifestyle Fair, held by the Corporation at Poinciana Park in the
parish of Portland, during October which is recognized as health
month. The UDC partnered with several stakeholders in the
parish including the Portland Health Department and Child
Development Agency to promote this year’s theme
‘Love your body, Treat your body right’ and had participants from 10
primary and high schools and the Fairy Hill community in attendance.
