The Kingston Craft Market will be hosting Emancipendence Day Celebration from 8:00am to 7:00pm on Friday, August 1, 2014 at 52 Port Royal Street. Vendors will also be offering special discount of 20 percent on selected items throughout the day.

The Emancipendence Day event will see a mix of traditional Jamaican dishes, jerk pork, jerk chicken, ackee and saltfish, ackee and corn pork, curry goat, mackerel run down, stamp and go, fritters, bammy, roast breadfruit, potato pudding, chocolate tea, lemonade, ginger beer and other culinary delights on offer.

Entertainment features include a Fashion Show which will begin at 2:30pm, pantomime dance group, family games, storytelling sessions and traditional music all day by Livingstone Disco.

The event which is endorsed by the Urban Development Corporation (UDC) will serve to promote downtown Kingston as an ideal location for both business and pleasure. The UDC recently completed Phase 1 of major upgrading works at the Craft Market and is also spearheading the redevelopment of downtown Kingston and Port Royal. Stakeholders are being invited to visit the UDC’s website at www.udcja.com and share their thoughts via a blog page to further inform this planning process for downtown Kingston.

The redevelopment of downtown Kingston and Port Royal is aligned with the Vision 2030 Jamaica national development plan which aims to make Jamaica the place of choice to work, live, raise families and do business.
