UDC LEADS THIRD CITY STAKEHOLDER PLANNING EFFORTS

The planning for the development of Jamaica’s Third City as mandated by Prime Minister Andrew Holness in July 2016 advanced in earnest with the Urban Development Corporation, UDC hosting an inaugural technical workshop on September 27, 2017 at the Jamaica Conference Centre. The event which involved multi-sectoral stakeholders was organised to establish the context within which the ‘smart city’ would be developed and the approach to select its location.

UDC Staff Meeting Closure

The Urban Development Corporation wishes to advise that the following offices:

  • Caymanas Development Company
  • Runaway Bay Water Company
  • Negril

Montego Bay Will be closed to the public on Friday, September 29, 2017 to facilitate a staff function.

UDC Assumes Management of Aquasol

AQUASOL Beach

The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) wishes to advise that with effect from September 7, 2017, it has assumed operational responsibility for the Walter Fletcher Beach (formerly operated as Aquasol) in St. James.

The UDC will conduct as assessment of the facility to determine whether limited access can be provided in the short term, even as we rehabilitate the facility.

The public will be further advised.

UDC PROVIDES EDUCATIONAL GRANTS TO GSAT AWARDEES

The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) has invested in the educational development of twenty GSAT awardees through individual grants of $10,000. The awards were presented on August 31, 2017 at a function at the UDC’s Pearly Beach attraction in St. Ann.

The GSAT awardees are children of members of staff at the Corporation spanning its various entities in Kingston, St. Catherine, St. Ann and Westmoreland.

Kingston Craft Market to Host August Mawning and Community Fair

The Kingston Craft Market in collaboration with the Urban Development Corporation will be hosting ‘Augus Mawnin’ their annual income generating activity on August 4, 2017 at the facility at 1 Pechon Street.

The event will feature free health checks from the Waterfront Medical Centre including glucose testing for up to a maximum of 50 persons, unlimited, blood pressure and weight assessments, a cultural fashion show and skit, entertainment and music from 8:30am to 6pm. Local cuisine and craft items will also be on sale.

Fort Clarence Beach Park Response

The Urban Development Corporation (UDC), in its mandate to lead sustainable urban and rural development through public-private partnerships, takes a business-like approach in achieving its mission.

While the UDC is a Government agency, it operates as a self-sustaining entity and is expected to act like any prudent corporation would in developing its growth plan. A key element of that growth plan is attracting investors who share the UDC’s vision of providing world class facilities for Jamaicans.

Government Oval Response

Local experts affiliated with the construction industry will have an opportunity to contribute to the planning and development of the new Government Oval to be constructed at the National Heroes Circle.

It is important this is understood.

Jamaican architects, urban planners, engineers, landscape architects, etc., in the appropriate time, will all have equal opportunity to either submit tenders, express their opinion on design and layout or volunteer their skill to this landmark project.
