UDC Hosts 32nd Annual Hellshire Summer Fun

Over 400 children from childcare and protective institutions in the corporate area were treated by the Urban Development Corporation (UDC) to a fun-filled day at the 32nd staging of Hellshire Summer Fun, which was held at Fort Clarence Beach in Hellshire on July 19, 2012.

This year nine institutions were treated at the event including Early Stimulation Project, My Father’s House, Best Care Lodge, Reddies Place of Safety, The Nest, Walkers Place of Safety, Jamaica Christian Boys Home, Alpha Boys Home and Homestead Place of Safety.

Speaking at the event, Clover Brown, Manger, Reddies Place of Safety said “I was at the staging of the first event and it continues to grow from strength to strength. UDC’s commitment to the event shows that the organization wants to give back to the community and the children look forward to the event every year.” She further added, we are extremely grateful to the Corporation for staging this event.

Also speaking at the event, Lorna Clarke, Director of Corporate Communication, UDC said “As the nation celebrates its 50th year of Independence we are proud to continue to collaborate with sponsors to stage this important event. The Corporation is not just interested in primary and secondary infrastructure, but in  holistic development, which places people at the heart of what we do.”

Tamara Cherrington, Help Desk Administrator at the UDC, a volunteer at the event said  
“It was her first year participating in the event and she was overjoyed to be able to play a crucial role in providing these children with a change from their regular routine.”

This year, the Corporation collaborated with several private and public sector companies to sponsor this event. These companies included JN General Insurance, Kirk Distributors, Caribbean Broilers Ltd, LIME, New Era Finance Ltd, Crazy Jim Ice Cream,  Bigga Soft Drinks, WATA, Jamaican Urban Transit Company (JUTC), Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC), Caribbean Cream Ltd, Main Events Entertainment Limited, Mothers and Juici Patties.

Hellshire Summer Fun is an outreach programme of the UDC which targets children from childcare and protective institutions in the corporate area, providing a recreational opportunity for many who otherwise would not have had this experience.
